I try to get at least 2-3 in during my day and if not, a late one after dinner usually helps. I must admit, it’s more difficult to achieve when the days are shorter and the sun vanishes at 4 pm, however, I remind myself that nature helps me to process my thoughts.

Earlier this year, on 28th September 2024, to be precise, I had gone into my garden and noticed the sun beaming on the flowers I had grown this year. Don’t ask me the name, I am useless at remembering! (If anyone knows, do comment below). I am still shocked that I managed to grow a bed full of flowers in summer, let alone still have the benefit of reaping the rewards through Autumn.

What I noticed when I went outside was how my thoughts became a lot calmer and I was able to be in the moment. I was focused on the colours and light and this set up my whole morning, with my thinking feeling less scatty and more balanced. I think there is something about pausing (even if for 5 minutes) that can impact thought processes.

This might come as a shock if I’ve failed to mention it. However, if you know me personally, you will likely know that I used to be a wedding photographer (many years ago).

Throughout my academic career, I’ve always wanted to integrate my photography, and this space will allow me to do so.

This ‘visual thoughts’ section will consist of my photography from a critical thinking angle. I will be out with my camera, exploring and sharing my musings. I will be putting my critical analysis into practice and demonstrating how my thinking skills work.

As I’m a fan of reflective practice, this will marry together my interest in critical thinking and my dedication to reflection.

I hope I will inspire some of you to share your critical thinking visual thoughts in this space too!
